Why I built Quieted
For a long time, the news ran my day more than I'd like to admit. I'd catch one alarming headline in the morning, and there went the next few hours… turning it over, worrying about something I couldn't do anything about in that moment.
I'm not trying to look away. Bad things happen in the world and I want to know about them. But I've learned I have to be careful about when I let them in. On a good day I can set aside time for the hard stuff, when I know it won't quietly derail everything after it. There was just never a real way to do that.
Most outlets hand everyone the same firehose. None of them let me sort the news around my own life. I want to know when there's a war. I don't need the sensationalized version of it. And a new medical breakthrough? Tell me everything.
Nothing out there could do this. So I built it. That's all Quieted really is: your news, on your terms, at the temperature you set.
How it works
You choose the outlets you trust. Then, topic by topic, you decide how each one reaches you — Read it in full, see a Calm version, or Skip it entirely. Your feed shows only what you asked for, at the temperature you set.
What “Calm” means
A Calm story is de-sensationalized: a neutral headline and the key facts in a few plain bullets, with the alarm turned down. You keep the information and lose the adrenaline — and every calm card links out to the original reporting.
What we keep — and how we protect it
We care about your data, so we keep as little of it as we can. We store only your topic settings — the Read / Calm / Skip choices that build your feed. The free-text you type during setup is used to make that first guess in the moment, and is never saved.
And because we take your privacy seriously, sign-in is passwordless: you get a one-time magic link by email, so there's no password to create, reuse, or have stolen — and we never store one. Your settings sync across your devices, protected so only your own account can reach them.
Quieted is in beta
“Beta” means Quieted is an early, still-evolving release — live and usable today, but not yet finished. So expect the occasional rough edge, and know that things may change as we learn what works. It's free while we're in beta— we haven't settled on what comes after, and we're not promising free forever, but for now it's on us and we'll give plenty of notice before anything changes. A note on the AI
Quieted uses AI to sort stories into topics and to write the Calm versions. It can make mistakes, including miscategorizing what a story is about. Treat everything here as a starting point, and check the original source before relying on it.
