We collect the minimum needed to run your reader: your email address and your topic settings. We also keep a count of the choices you make in the app — which topics people calm rather than read — but never which stories you read, and never what you type into search. We do not store the free-text you type during setup; we keep only a rough sense of how much you wrote, never the words. You can delete your account and everything above at any time.
Your email address — to sign you in (a one-tap magic link, no password) and, if you opt in, to send your weekly rundown.
Your reader settings— the outlets you choose, your region, your per-topic Read / Calm / Skip preferences, and whether you've opted into the weekly email. This is what builds your feed and syncs it across your devices.
Email-consent history — when you subscribe or unsubscribe from the weekly rundown, we keep a timestamped record, so both you and we have a clear account of your choices.
The choices you make in the app — when you set a topic or a subject to Read, Calm or Skip, run a search, paste in a link, share a story, filter to a single outlet, or open the set-aside section, we record that the choice happened. During setup we also record whether you answered the questions or went straight to the list of topics, and roughly how much you wrote — a rough size, never a word of it. This is how we learn which parts of Quieted are worth keeping and which topics people actually want calmed. What each record holds is deliberately narrow: the kind of choice, and — where it applies — the topic name and which of Read / Calm / Skip you picked.
What we do NOT store:the free-text answers you type during setup. That text is used once, in the moment, to make a first guess at your topic settings, and is never saved — not the words, not a copy, not a summary of it. The only thing kept from those two boxes is a rough size: whether you wrote a few words, a sentence or two, or a paragraph or more. That tells us whether the conversation is worth keeping as a way to set Quieted up; it can't tell anyone what you said, and we don't keep the exact length either, because an exact length is its own kind of fingerprint.
Alongside that, the records above never include which story you were looking at (no headline, no link), never include the words you type into search, and are not page views: we don't log what you open, how long you spend, or how far you scroll, and we don't reconstruct your browsing session.
To operate your account and feed, to send sign-in links and (only if you opt in) the weekly rundown, and to improve the product. Article text comes from publishers' public feeds — we sort and calm it with AI (see below) and always link back to the original.
Quieted uses AI (Anthropic's Claude) to sort stories into topics and to write the “Calm” versions. Article text from public feeds is sent to the model for this. Your setup answers are sent transiently to infer your settings but, again, are not stored. The AI can make mistakes, including miscategorizing a story — treat its output as a starting point and check the original source.
We rely on a small set of service providers, each handling only what their function requires:
Supabase (authentication and database — stores your account and settings) · Anthropic (AI classification and Calm versions) · Resend (sign-in and rundown emails) · Vercel (hosting). We also fetch public RSS feeds from news publishers and link out to them; we don't republish their full articles. Your data may be processed in the United States.
Because we care about your data, Quieted uses passwordless sign-in: you log in with a one-time magic link sent to your email. There is no password to create, reuse, or be stolen, and we never store one. Your settings are protected by row-level security, so only your own account can read them.
We use a single authentication cookie to keep you signed in. We do not currently use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Delete your account — Settings → Account → Delete account permanently removes your profile, your saved stories, your recorded choices, and your sign-in account. Unsubscribe — every rundown email has a one-click unsubscribe, and you can toggle it in Settings anytime. Access — contact us to request a copy of the data we hold about you. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (access, correction, deletion, portability); we honor these.
We keep your profile until you delete it. Records of the choices you make are kept while they're useful for understanding how Quieted is being used; we haven't set a fixed period, and we'll say so here if we do. Deleting your account removes all of it either way. The email-consent history is retained as a compliance record even after unsubscribe. Stored articles are shared, non-personal content and aren't tied to you.
Quieted isn't directed to children and isn't intended for anyone under 16.
